Sebastian Bach: Why Axl Rose Acts The Way He Does

http://gnrdaily.com/news_detail.asp?id=2633

Friday • September 17, 2010 8:28:02 AM

Former Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach was interviewed on the August 31, 2010 edition of "The Danny Bonaduce Show" on the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania radio station 94 WYSP. The chat is now available for streaming using the audio player below.

During the interview, Sebastian spoke briefly about how Guns N' Roses singer — and Bach's close friend and frequent tourmate — Axl Rose is often being portrayed unfavorably by the media. "Nobody has helped me more in the music industry than Axl Rose," Sebastian said.

"Everybody has all these theories as to why he acts the way he acts," Bach continued. "And there's no big mystery. He tells me the source of all of the insanity — it's his voice. It's his job to sing like that, and sometimes that sound is hard for him. And a lot of singers, you know... To sing in that range is just not an easy thing to do. And he does what he can, and if it takes him forty-five more minutes to warm up his pipes so he can sing 'Sweet Child O' Mine'... I mean, you drive around in your car and put on Guns N' Roses and just go for it. [Laughs]"

Guns N' Roses Walks Off Stage at Dublin Gig

http://www.gnrdaily.com/news_detail.asp?id=2626

Entertainment.ie reports that disaster was in the air at tonight's Guns N' Roses gig at The O2 when front man Axl Rose walked off stage after only 20 minutes. Fans were left bitterly disappointed after waiting for over an hour for the band to appear on stage in the first instance.

Trouble was brewing as fans began to get agitated whilst waiting for Guns N' Roses to come on stage, only making an appearance at 10.25pm - well over an hour after the support act, Danko, had finished playing. Some angry fans booed and threw a few beer/water bottles on stage in protest at the delay.

After a mediocre start, Axl Rose stopped the band after breaking into Welcome to the Jungle - just as the crowd were beginning to be won over - after another bottle was thrown up on stage. At this he announced "one more bottle and we're going home, we're here to have fun and we hope you are too, but one more and we are gone".

The gig continued for another 3 songs and as Rose was introducing the band, another missile was thrown at the band. At this, Rose took the band, bid his goodnight and stormed off the stage at about 10.50pm.

Just after 11pm, a member of the O2 staff arrived on stage telling the crowd that there were some "technical difficulties" and they were trying to get GnR back on stage. A short while after, another staff member arrived on stage to plead with the now depleting crowd to stop throwing bottles as they were still trying to get Axl Rose to return to the stage. 11.10pm, the main lights came on and the majority of the crowd left The O2.

The night was not over yet however, with GnR returning to the stage at about 11.25pm and continued playing a set to a small but pretty irate crowd.

No official statement has been issued as of yet, nor any news about refunds - if any - but stay tuned for further updates.

Guns N' Roses at Leeds Festival 2010: 'Be safe, good night and f**k you'

Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose launched a foul-mouthed tirade against police and promoters as he left the stage at Leeds Festival on Sunday, complaining that his band was pulled early after being promised a slot that would last until midnight.

Rose told the crowd he'd been informed by organisers that Guns N' Roses would be allowed to play until just before midnight, but the band's set was cut at around 11.15pm.

Guns N' Roses at Leeds 2010: Axl Rose claims timing 'deal' was broken

He failed to acknowledge, however, that - as with Reading on Friday night - the group were late in making their way on stage in the first place.

Strict curfews imposed by police and local authorities also dictate that the festivals' music performances must end by 11pm in Leeds and 11.30pm in Reading.

'We come here to play for you but the cops and the promoters wanna f**k us in the a**,' Rose told fans at Bramham Park.

'We would like to play a few more songs for you but we'll just play one.'

After arriving 35 minutes late for Sunday's set, he underwent numerous costume changes and made do with a one-song encore (Paradise City) before signing off with: 'Be safe, good night and to all the cops and promoters - f**k you.'

The band's two-hour set mixed new songs with old favourites such as November Rain, Sweet Child O' Mine and Welcome to the Jungle.

After showing up an hour late for Friday's set in Reading, Rose had told the crowd the band wouldn't be appearing in Leeds.

His fellow performers have slammed his behaviour, labelling it 'so predictable, it's boring'.

'I don't see it as him being a rock star or rock 'n' roll. I just see it as being disrespectful,' Lostprophets guitarist Mike Lewis commented to BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat.

'It's disrespectful to all the other bands. It's disrespectful to all the people who've bought tickets. I think the guy is a joke and I think his band is a joke.'

Meanwhile, Win Butler - vocalist with Arcade Fire - opened his band's headlining slot at Reading on Saturday with the quip: 'We're very happy to be here. At least we're punctual, right?'

In 2002, Rose kept fans waiting for nearly three hours before showing up for Guns N' Roses' notorious Leeds Festival performance that year.
